Hello members and followers of Wildlife Queensland Capricorn Branch!
While this is our first blog post in a while, members and committee have been active with meetings and attending local wildlife events such as the Butterfly Day at Lammermoor Native Gardens in Yeppoon, holding market stalls and some planning for 2026.
The branch had the AGM (Annual General Meeting) back in late November 2025, with local environmental and wildlife legends, John McCabe and Steve Elson stepping down from their positions on the committee in 2024-25. We thank both John and Steve for their knowledge, dedication and commitment to the Capricorn branch, and the wildlife, habitat and environment in the Capricorn region over the many years and decades. While John and Steve have retired from committee duties, they are still very active in the wildlife and conservation movement in the region, including with the OGRES (Old Guys Restoring Ecosystems) at Mt Etna Caves National Park, and supporting and contributing to the branch at meetings and events. Thanks John and Steve for all you do for wildlife, habitat, ecosystems and conservation in CQ.
The 2025-26 committee sees the return of two other wildlife and environmental legends and long term WPSQ Capricorn committee members, Lorelle Campbell and Andrew Dinwoodie, and three new committee members also with a passion for wildlife, habitat and environment to carry the branch forward.
2026 Committee:
President: Chantelle James
Secretary: Lorelle Campbell
Treasurer: Andrew Dinwoodie
General committee member: Maryanne Smith
General committee member: Anthony Kunkel
We are planning to having a couple of member and community activities before the end of the year and are currently investigating and planning for these local activities as a committee …. stay tuned for more info soon!
